Contents 1. Overview

- This system has been in force since 1985 for the purpose of resource recycling and environmental protection. Empty bottles have been handled by the National Tax Service while soft drinks have been handled by the Ministry of Health and Welfare since 2003, but such handling work was unified to the Ministry of Environment, and the empty bottle deposit of which price has been charged differentially were also unified according to the size of empty bottle.

2. Background

- The number of empty bottle consumed annually is about 5.3 billion bottles, and of them the empty bottles which are not reused are 795 million bottles, accounting for about 15%.
