1. Overview
- The Upo Wetland located in Changnyeong-gun was selected as the one of Korea''''s candidates in effort to execute the ''''Wetland City Accreditation System of Ramsar Convention'''' in Korea.
* The ''''Wetland City Accreditation of Ramsar Convention'''' is a resolution of Ramsar Convention resolved in June 2015, which was initiated by the Ministry of Environment, designating 3 locations of Upo Wetland of Changnyeong-gun, Dongbaek Garden of Jeju-si, and Yongneup Swamp of Daeamsan Mountain as the candidates for Korea''''s inland wetlands to request for Wetland City Accreditation of the Ramsar Convention in June 2017.
※ Candidate wetlands along the seashores are under review at the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries by itself.
* The Ministry of Environment is to submit the application requesting the certification in 2017 for those 3 candidate wetlands of Korea inland together with the seashore candidates. In the event those candidates pass the review of Ramsar Convention Secretariat in 2017, the certificates will be awarded at the 13th Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP) of Ramsar Convention to be held in Dubai by 2018.
