Gwangju speeds up Railway Line 2 construction... environmental impact evaluation started
The City of Gwangju is putting efforts to fast-track the construction of the city’s 2nd Subway Line.

Gwangju City has sped up carrying out an environmental impact evaluation before beginning the first step of the Urban Railway line 2 construction. The line which will be made as a circulation line, is 17km long from the vehicle base of Yuchon-dong in Gwangju to Gwangju Station.
According to the city on the 4th, it disclosed the items and subjects of the environmental effects evaluation for the construction, and started to collect opinions from the residents.
The city intends to receive opinions from citizens about the expected environmental damages during the construction process including air and water quality, geological change, noise pollution and it plans to start construction as soon as the assessment is done.
Officials said the construction should be able to start no later than this year after getting approval from the Ministry of Land and Transport.
Experts said construction on the first section is expected to be completed in 2023 and the entire project is estimated to finish by 2025. Projected total costs for the construction stands at 2.55 trillion won.
