Ulsan Water Quality Research Center selected as ¡®suitable institution¡¯ by drinking water field competence tests
Waterworks Headquarters, all fields¡¯ drinking level competence levels ¡°satisfactory¡±
Ulsan Metropolitan City Waterworks Headquarters Water Quality Research Center received a ¡°satisfactory¡± evaluation regarding all matters subject to evaluation under the analytical ability competence of drinking water implemented by the National Institute of Environmental Research.
Evaluated items include ‣three kinds of microorganisms, ‣nine kinds of harmful non-living substances, ‣six kinds of harmful living substances, ‣and one kind of disinfection by-product, for a total of 19 items to examine. The National Institute of Environmental Research provides complementary samples to use for evaluation methods, and each measurement and analysis institution conducts a rigorous analysis in ppb units (billionths) and then compares the results to the standard measurements to make their assessment.
The National Institute of Environmental Research, that manages drinking water measurement and analysis quality control, in order to compare and evaluate each institute¡¯s measurements and test inspection efforts regarding standard samples, conduct competence tests each year. Environmental pollutants measurement analysis institutions such as the national Environmental Management Office, city and provincial Public Health and Environment Research Institute, Water Quality Research Center, and designated drinking water inspection institutes are all subject to these tests.
The Waterworks Headquarters Water Quality Research Center has adopted the national standard water quality inspection system, and received recognition as an International Laboratory by KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) in June of 2009. This has increased Ulsan tap water¡¯s quality guarantee and reliability and has raised the national standards as a tested institution.
